ok, here's a problem that i am looking for a little advice with.
my fiance is an ex jw and his parents (and other family members) are still practicing.
they have pretty much totally cut him off since he moved in with me.
Yes, invite them, don't lower yourself to their level,
just because they turn their back on him, don't do the same, invite them, its their loss, one day they will regret it, trust me.
know exactly what you're going through, I am an ex jw , moved in with my girlfriend 13 years ago, never looked back, she has been a huge help in my life.

we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.
Now # 1 would have to be

okay, lets say for the sake of argument, and since they predict it anyways, if the governments of canada, usa, uk, etc said to the jw's no more religion, how many do you think would cave in to the pressure.
it's obvious to me, most jw's are not that into the religion, for most just a social affair, the real diehards who believe and do all is probaly 25 % or less.. would you or your family cave in to that pressure, or get stronger and say, see the end is near ??

you know Scooby we have had our arguments and disagreements, but this time I agree 110 %, i think that thread is very poor taste, we don't need to start rumours about anybody.
And besides , the Watchtower can mess up all by themselves, they don't need any help.
i don't want to piss anybody off with this post so please don't get offended.
my family always goes all out for thanksgiving and x-mas.
part of that going all out means lots of booze.
it's a tough call, i cannot pick a side, i see both views and they are both right,
but, he is going to go to places over the next 30 years that have alcohol, so he might as well get used to it, he will have to face it eventually, as long as no one gets carried away, i don't see a big problem, because let's say you have no alcohol at all, and then what happens with the next get together he is invited to, whether it is your family or someone else, will she say the same thing to those people and so on and so on.
I was a family get together, and they served Watchtower and Awakes, I was offended but I lived through it, and didn't go back to the Kingdon Hall. And i will have to attend more eventually.
